One of my goals for myself and the kids (and Chris if he isn't working) is to take a walk in the woods every weekend to see what we can see. There are several places in our town that offer Wildlife Preserves with nature trails for walking, docks for fishing, and observatory decks for watching the water. Living in the Lakes Region area of Maine does have its benefits!
The first weekend in May we started to tick off the list of places to play in town. We were dog-sitting for my parents and the weather was beautiful so what better time for a walk then a nice Saturday afternoon where everyone could enjoy the outing?
Cece and Lila (the dog) took the lead most of the way down the well beaten path while Rex, who was snuggled up in the Babyhawk carrier, and I followed. We meandered around vernal pools, crossed a rickety bridge and dodged a few bumble bees. We gathered pine cones, acorns, sang songs and enjoyed some apple slices on a bench by the trail head. Indeed, a wonderful way to start the summer!
I hope you will follow along as we explore the wonders that the Lakes Region area has to offer. Here are a few pictures of our walk. These are taken with my Blackberry and are a bit grainy, but the essence is there.
