Our second outdoor adventure was Chaffin Pond Preserve. This was even better than Mud Pond as there were benches along the way, a place to fish and lots of wildflowers to see. The first part of the trail meanders right along the waters edge and Cece had a great time throwing sticks and rocks into the water.
Chris was able to come with us as well. While we were walking we happened along some tree stumps along the waters edge. Chris and Cece had a classic father/daughter moment as he taught her all about beavers and how they cut down trees with their teeth to make their houses. Cece then wanted to search for more tree stumps and didn't we happen onto a beaver hut! It was great. We didn't see any beavers, but I'm pretty sure seeing one of their houses was enough for now!
The path then takes a turn away from the pond and cuts through a little hillside. We crossed a few newer foot bridges, squished through some mud in a low lying area and picked a few flowers.
Toward the end, we let Rex get out so he could try out his hiking legs. Cece taught him all about how to watch out for stumps when he walks and all about the water that was running under the bridge where we were standing. Rex then had a great time looking for and picking up rocks and sticks, drawing in the dirt and examining insects on the way back out to the car.
It was another great hike.
