I ditched the side snap idea.... for now. I just couldn't get it to work. There was too much pucker, not enough cover.
I'm also running out of scrap fabric. I was really itching to cut into the 1 20x20 size piece of PUL which had been sitting on my table since March. So, I got out the good scissors, all of the supplies I would need, chose a thread color and dove in.
Introducing, Country Baby Diapers!
Here you can see a medium size Country Baby AIO. This diaper is made with buttery smooth microfleece on the inside, three incredibly absorbent layers of microfiber sewn into the diaper and also has a 3 layer snap-in soaker. The outer is made of a nice piece of sage green PUL. The diaper is wonderful! It was as if all of the practicing I did with scrap material paid off because it could not have turned out better. This diaper is expected to fit babies from about 14-25lbs, is sewn in a "quick dry" fashion and has 6 total layers of protection against leaks when used with the snap-in.
The initial test of the diaper went well. Without the snap in soaker, the diaper lasted well into its second hour without a leak. The second time he wore it I used the soaker and there was sooo much room left for moisture when I changed him at 2.5hrs. The soaker alone holds over 4oz of water in a volume test conducted at my sink. Since its creation on Monday, the diaper has been washed 5 times, dries on a single dryer cycle of low heat and has stood up fabulously to the rigors a cloth diaper can go thru in a week. It is already my favorite diaper in my stash and I can not wait until it is clean once it has gone to the wash!
There will, without a doubt, be more of these diapers to come.
