Sometimes in order to get Cece to eat something healthy I have to turn it into a "surprise". This all started after her trip to Central Maine Medical Center and I couldn't get her to eat anything with nutritional value.
So, I decided that a banana that was "dressed-up" was healthier than a donut, so I sliced a banana into four pieces, spread some peanut butter on it and then sprinkled a few rainbow jimmies on it. Well, you would have thought I had given her a whole BOX full of donuts because she devoured two banana's!
So, that is how it started. That week I put sprinkles on everything from oatmeal to apples to whole wheat toast with peanut butter. And although sprinkles aren't the healthiest item in my baking cupboard, the nutritional benefit of the healthy food under the sprinkles far outweighed the value of an entire donut.
So this morning Cece wanted a surprise. Well, the sprinkles thing got old really quick so I have had to get creative because the whole idea of a "surprise" is to make a healthy item desirable. I decided to make her a "milkshake" and this is what I learned today.....
You can not make a milkshake in the small Black 'n' Decker food chopper.
I learned this the hard way, with a rather large mess. The food chopper is GREAT for making homemade baby food. And even though the process is the same, it is not so great for milkshakes.
Always use the blender with a secure cover to make milkshakes.
Milkshake Recipe:
1 cup milk
2 Tbls. Hersey's syrup
3 or 4 ice cubes
Blend in a BLENDER until smooth. Pour into a frosted glass for fun, and garnish with a fun straw.
Enjoy!
